Both the seventh- and eighth-graders place first in the competition. Teams rotated through four different stations including forestry, aquatic ecology, wildlife, and soil and land use. Students also learned about and were tested on their local environment. Attending Envirothon has academic benefits such as learning about new subjects in the science field. According to United’s advisor, July Shomo, “This was a year to celebrate because for the first time in the history of United students attending the junior high Envirothon, we had both a seventh-grade and an eighth-grade team receive a first-place award together.”
