Students get workforce advice from senior adults

A group of students from Springdale Junior/Senior High School traveled to HarmarVillage Care Center and Amber Woods, a skilled nursing center, on April 23 to tour the facilities, participate in activities with the residents, and have a Q & A session with the leaders of six different departments. According to a post on the district’s Facebook page, students asked questions about training, job descriptions, career paths, room for advancement, hospital vs. personal and skilled care facilities, income, benefits, opportunities for training. The trip was not only beneficial and informative to the students, but also very exciting to the residents. They loved being with all of the kids and sharing stories about what they did while they were in the workforce. Students met a Navy nurse, a teacher, an accountant, and a sales representative from New York. The visitation was made possible by the Challenge Program, which seeks to connect students to the workforce, and the school’s business partner Harmar Village. Funding was provided from the Dynamo Education Foundation Grant Program.
