Students at Fairfield Area Elementary School have a special opportunity to connect with local artists as part of the school’s curriculum. Each year, the schools’ PTO brings a artist to speak to the students and bring a cultural awareness into the classroom. Past artists have included HuaHua, who shared Chinese culture and art with the students and Thomas Jolin who demonstrated how to play the dulcimer and talked about how to build a limberjack – a primitive wooden puppet or “jig doll.” The events center on the fourth-grade, but all students have the opportunity to work with the visiting artist.
