High School students Joey Crissman and Hayley Woodside from Armstrong SD won first-place in a regional and state drug awareness video competition sponsored by the Elks Lodge. The theme for the 2017-18 contest was “What Heroes Do,” which was reflected in the video’s titles” Be A Hero.” The video depicts a student who intervenes and saves the life of a friend who overdoses on drugs. Students in the district have many opportunities to hone their video production skills in the TV Production course at Armstrong High School and West Shamokin High School. In the ASD-TV studio, students learn film and post-production skills as they work on projects such as the Education Today television show, produced by students and aired on a local cable channel.
