According to Bald Eagle Area School district’s Food Service Director Laura Frye, school breakfast programs support busy families by making it convenient for students to eat breakfast at school. That’s why the week of March 3, the district is promoting school breakfasts as a way to celebrate National School Breakfast Week.

With a “Start your engines” theme, students have the opportunity to participate in activities, while eating a healthy and hearty morning meal. Elementary school students will have coloring and puzzle pages to complete, while middle and high school students have the chance to enter a prize drawing for snack-line coupons.

Throughout the school year, daily breakfast features a main entree with a side of fruit, 100 percent fruit juice and/or milk. Featured menu options last week were mini cinnamon buns and pancakes, pancake and sausage on a stick, yogurt with Scooby grahams and breakfast ring.
According to the district’s Food Service Department, National School Breakfast Week was established in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of school breakfast programs. Research also shows that students who participate in eating breakfast, including one provided at school, have improved attendance, behavior, higher test scores and decreased tardiness.
