Students from the Bald Eagle Area School District celebrated Read Across America week as a way to promote the love of literacy and to commemorate Dr. Seuss, whose birthday is March 2. Read Across America is an annual national reading campaign created by the National Education Association to promote reading and to celebrate the life of the author known as Dr. Seuss.

With themes each school day, students, faculty and staff participated in activities such as crazy hair day; wacky Wednesday; mismatch shoes and socks day; and more. Teachers had the opportunity to also bring activities into class.

At Howard Elementary School, the week ended with Family Game Night, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association. At Port Matilda Elementary School, they ended the week with Book Bingo. There were also book fairs at the schools where students and families could order books.

Last year, guest speakers visited BEA to read to students. They included WTAJ meteorologist Joe Murgo; and Jay Paterno, former Penn State football quarterback coach, current author and son of the late Penn State head football Coach Joe Paterno.
