‘Reading Dogs’ help improve literacy skills

Freemansburg Elementary School is removing barriers to literacy with a new “Reading Dogs” program. Started by school custodian Margaret Kavanaugh, the program brings dogs to the school to help children learn to read aloud. Students who are self-conscious about reading in front of their classmates can read to the dogs in the library, instead. The program helps the children improve their skills and fosters positive associations with reading.
