Woodland Elementary School in Cameron County School District recently held an open house to unveil their new STEM lab. Students, parents, community members and foundation representatives turned out to support the initiative. Mrs. Bonita Burgess, STEM Instructor, and several of her students were on hand to provide hands-on demonstrations. In addition to district funds, this program received financial support from the George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation, Emporium Foundation, and First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. The instructional framework focuses on Higher-Order Thinking, Engaged Learning, Authentic Connections, and Technology Use. Through this program, students will gain 21st century learning skills by engaging in projects that develop skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, information literacy, and adaptability.
