Claysburg Kimmel SD Afterschool STEM Program

The afterschool STEM program kicked off recently at the Claysburg Kimmel Elementary School. The program at was started as a partnership between the district and the education foundation during the 2015-16 school year and is offered one day per week, with approximately 40-50 students. On Wednesdays throughout the year, students can choose to stay after school to work on hands-on STEM activities. According to Mr Hall, elementary principal, “the afterschool STEM program is a way to get students excited about learning. The students that participate in the program develop tangible STEM skills and begin to see themselves as real-world problem solvers.” Projects currently being used in the program are: Lego Mindstorm, VEX Robotics, Crime Scenarios, and many more teacher prepared activities.
