Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation holds distracted driving seminar for BEA students

Bald Eagle Area High School students got to hear firsthand that vehicle crashes are the leading cause of accidental death for those ages 5 to 24, and that 60 percent of teen vehicle crashes are caused by distracted driving. That’s what took the life of Joel Feldman’s daughter, Casey, when she was just 21 years old. Feldman now travels across North America speaking to groups, including those at school, about the effects of their actions when driving distracted.

The distracted driving seminar was held Dec. 12 at the middle and high school for students in 10th through 12th grades – brought to the school with help from West Penn Power that was the force behind bringing the event to the area. It was presented by Joel Feldman from the Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation in Philadelphia. He also presented that day at West Penn Power and to about 700 students at Bellefonte Area High School.

Feldman said the mission of his presentations are to help individuals understand the potential impact of their actions when distracted driving, which includes texting; eating and drinking; fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation systems; or anything that prevents the driver from putting his or her full attention to the road.
