Duquesne Elementary students travel the world

Duquesne Elementary School students in grades 3-6 are experiencing the world without ever leaving the classroom. Through the use of virtual reality technology, students have visited Egypt, Sierra Leone and Washington, D.C. According to an article and video on the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review website the technology is part of a makerspace in the school called the Boiler Room. A girl empowerment group at the school, the Duquesne Duchess Association, recently took a virtual field trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to better understand the impact of the event. The purpose of the technology is to help students engage more fully with the content they are learning.
