Elementary students ‘WOW’ with vocabulary skills

Maestro. Zenith. Prodigious. Students in K-6 in Muhlenberg SD are “WOW”ing the community with their acquisition of new words. Through the Word of the Week (WOW) program, students are introduced to a new robust vocabulary word every week during the school year. The word is broadcast on the local radio station and displayed in the school as well as in locations around town such as the grocery store, the township building sign and restaurants. Twice during the year, the students engage in a contest to use as many of the WOW Frolic Challenge words they have learned as they can in a single story. They also participate in fun activities throughout the year designed to help students retain the words. To see the words for the year, visit the district’s website.
