On May 24, Colonial Middle School students welcomed Teresa Bosniak, vice president of Firstrust Bank, to speak to in the Investing In Life elective for the third time this school year. Ms. Bosniak shared strategies for counting money, protecting your identity in the current financial world, building a relationship with clients, how to open a bank account, as well as the ins and outs of savings accounts, money markets and certificates of deposit. The students practiced writing checks, participated in a money treasure hunt and asked many questions. Said Kris McDowell, Family and Consumer Science teacher, “She reinforced many of the things the students learn in class. We look forward to having her visit again next year.”

The Investing In Life class is one of the Family and Consumer Sciences electives at CMS. After completing introductory courses in the five United Arts areas (Art, Computer Literacy, Family and Consumer Science, Music and Technology), students in seventh and eighth grade have the opportunity to explore those areas more in depth through elective courses of their choice.
