A new grant secured by Deer Lakes SD will ensure more healthy options for students this year. The $4,000 grant from the National Football League and the American Dairy Association North East’s Fuel Up to Play 60 program, will fund a new dairy cooler and more fitness equipment. According to an article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, this is the third year the district has received the grant, bringing the total they have received to $20,000. Past funds have gone toward breakfast carts and blenders so that students could have more nutritional options at school, and physical education and recess equipment. Through American Dairy Association North East, students also have met with Pittsburgh Steelers Arthur Moats and Cam Heyward at Heinz Field to talk about wellness, healthy eating and exercise.
