Library becomes ‘Learning Commons’

The library at Knoch High School in South Butler SD will have a whole new look this year as it transitions to a Learning Commons. The new space will include a café run by special education students in the school’s Life Skills class. According to an article in the student newspaper, The Knight Times, the café will offer students the opportunity to gain real-life workplace skills without leaving campus. An added benefit is that students in the Life Skills class and those in regular education classes will have more opportunities to interact. In addition to the café, the new space will include a glass-walled collaboration room, hydroponics growing stations, and a classroom area with whiteboards and an interactive monitor.
