Greater Latrobe hosts annual Art Gala to preview new art selections

From elementary to high school, Greater Latrobe School District students have opportunities to evaluate and appreciate art through the district’s special art collection.

The GLSD Art Conservation Trust, which oversees and preserves the collections displayed in each school building, held its 28th annual Art Gala on Nov. 7 in the high school.

Elementary and junior high school student docents introduced pieces that were selected last year for their schools. High school docents previewed 22 pieces that are being considered for inclusion in the high school collection.

Members of the student council made the selections from pieces featured in annual regional juried exhibitions sponsored by Latrobe Art Center and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts.

Attendees had the opportunity to vote for their favorites, to be compared to the top five chosen by the students, with one winner to be chosen at the next student council meeting.
