Summer reading program keeps skill fresh

Harmony Area SD believes that summer break doesn’t mean summer fade for academic skills. That’s why the district has implemented a summer reading incentive program for students in grades 2-6. Participants log into the Accelerated Reader (AR) website using their schoolyear login and take quizzes on books they read during the summer. Student can also check out books and take quizzes at the school library on designated days. For each quiz students earn points, which are exchanged for prizes at the start of the fall semester. Those who participate will be invited to an AR assembly at the start of the schoolyear and entered to win other drawing prizes such as school store money, gift cards, ice cream and a grand prize – a Kindle Fire or a new bike.
