image Connellsville AreaA group of middle school students in the Connellsville Area SD got a look at a wide variety of health-related professions as part of a new partnership with Connellsville Area Career and Technical Center. The students who participated in the weeklong health care camp went on field trips, heard guest speakers and completed hands-on activities such as first aid training, glucose testing and simulated blood drawing. Students also had the opportunity to be CPR certified. Participants visited the health professions division of Westmoreland County Community College for a look at possible education/career paths and toured the Highlands Hospital in Connellsville. A “health care Olympics” competition to test the students’ knowledge capped off the week. The camp was funded by the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board to help expose students to careers in health care at an earlier stage in their education.
