Team combines Lego fun with learning

Students in Turkeyfoot Valley Area’s First Lego League are exposed to real-life engineering challenges while having fun with robots. This year’s team, Robot S.M.A.R.T., ranked ninth overall out of 88 teams competing in the Southwestern PA region. They also placed second in the “Core Values” category. During competition, teams of students and their adult coaches build Lego-based robots to complete certain tasks. They are judged in three areas: a chosen service project, core values and robot design. The team’s service project focused on service dogs and their importance in the community.
