lower moreland mlk day eventMore than 100 volunteers attended the inaugural Martin Luther King Jr. Day event at Pine Road Elementary School in Lower Moreland Township SD, working to help members of the community and spruce up the school. Organized by second-grade teacher Rachel Thierolf and kindergarten teacher Fernanda Lemos, the group sorted and packed personal hygiene items for displaced individuals serviced by Face to Face Germantown, and made Valentine cards for service men and women related to their Pine Road community. They also created placemats and thoughtful cards for the elderly living in three local nursing homes. Closer to home, the students worked on stations related to language arts, math and English as a second language. They also made cards for incoming kindergartners, collected trash on the property and spread wood chips on the school’s nature trail. Additionally, they developed a display of veteran and active service members related to the school’s community.
