Marion Center Area SD students in grades 5-12 honed science and environmental skills during the Enviroquest Competition held this fall. Sponsored by the Junior Academy of Sciences, the event is held annually at Jennings Environmental Center near Slippery Rock. Students compete in three categories: identification of Pennsylvania plants and animals, environmental processes, and environmental concepts. Participants follow trails through the woods and go to various stations to answer questions relating to environmental/ecology concepts and issues. Of the 15 teams that entered this year’s competition, the two Marion Center senior high teams placed first overall and third overall, in addition to winning awards in the individual categories. The junior high and elementary teams also received several awards. Teacher sponsors for the teams are Tom Betts, Howard Cattau and Max Falisec.
