Inglewood Elementary School proudly hosted the second annual Diversity Dinner on Oct. 27 in the school cafeteria. Led by the Cultural Competency Committee at Inglewood, the evening consisted of a buffet style dinner for Inglewood students and families who volunteered to bring an appetizer, main entrée, side dish or dessert that represents their culture or heritage. More than 65 students and family members along with more than a dozen staff members attended the event. New this year, families had the opportunity to share about their culture and/or about the dish that they brought as well as its significance to their family and their culture. Families brought with them a recipe to share, as Inglewood plans to create a small cookbook consisting of Inglewood families’ diverse recipes. Inglewood’s Cultural Competence Committee hosted the first Diversity Dinner last year after more than three years of planning. This year, the team was extremely excited to host the second of what they hope to be many more to come. Inglewood’s Cultural Competence Committee consists of Peggy Groller (chair), Carolyn Barr-Hubbard, Allison Taroff, Tamara Nardo, Erin Lord, Orlando Taylor and Jessica Meschino. The committee took photos and provided speech bubbles for guests to make comments to be displayed on a bulletin board at Inglewood Elementary during the school year.
