Oley Valley students find their SPARC

Oley Valley seventh- and eighth-graders joined high school freshmen and sophomores at the high school to participate in an event entitled “Life after High School: Finding your SPARC (Students Paving a Road to Careers).” During the event students were able to visit representatives from BB&T, East Penn Manufacturing, Albright College, Ursinus College, Reading Area Community College, Kutztown University, Penn State University, the U.S Army and Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences. They participated in mock interviews, a how to keep/lose a job challenge, a tie tying demonstration, a dress for success demonstration and they were able to create their own SPARC, identifying what careers they were interested in pursuing after high school. Heather Adams from BCTV was the keynote speaker, sharing pertinent information about the skills needed to acquire and retain employment and how to translate those experiences into a career.
