The National Education Association’s held its first National Read Across America Day on March 2, 1998, with the goal to get kids of all ages excited about reading. This year, students enrolled in Mrs. Stephanie Kallis’ English II CP classes and students registered in Mrs. Marlaina Schlegel’s BCIU Early Intervention classes celebrated National Read Across America Day together. The tenth graders visited the Early Intervention Center and read to the students in an effort to promote the value and enjoyment of literacy. Said tenth grader Alysha Ulrich, “So many of us have grown accustomed to the atmosphere of high school, and I think being with the children was as fun for us as it was for them.” Student Lindsey Williamson commented, “I thought it was a great experience. I got to read to a very shy little boy who started to break out of his shell and point to the pictures in the book and smile by the end of our visit.” Josh Wrubleski remarked, “Not only did we have a fun time together, we also learned a lot from each other.”
