“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people helping.” -Fred Rogers
Real life has been tying into the 4th grade ELA and Science curriculum recently all too well. In Mrs. Rogers’ 4th grade class at Paradise Elementary School, learners have been studying weather and following the stories of the devastation caused by hurricanes over these past few weeks. As a class, learners brainstormed ways that they could help, and they decided to write letters to some of the youngest victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Their letters will be sent to elementary schools in Houston, Texas and Key West, Florida with the hopes of brightening someone’s day with a few kind words. It is such an important lesson in compassion and showing them that even the smallest stone can make a ripple.
