College Road Trips put students on a path to post-secondary success

As a way to help students prepare for post-secondary education, Reading High School began hosting “College Road Trips” this summer for rising seniors. “We learned some students were not visiting campuses, even those who were interested in college or accepted to college. We started small this year and plan to expand next year,” says Principal Eric Turman, who worked with the school’s career, college and guidance staff to plan the day trips. Throughout the summer, about 25 students visited 14 Pennsylvania colleges, including Alvernia University, Millersville University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Albright College, Reading Area Community College, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, Susquehanna University, Gettysburg College and Temple University. “Our goal is to increase the number of tours next summer and possibly allow rising sophomores and juniors to attend if they have an interest,” Mr. Turman says. “We want to expose our students to a variety of campuses and colleges so they can make the best post-secondary choices.”
