Oct. 26 wrapped up Red Ribbon Week at Bald Eagle Area Middle and High School. It’s a national campaign aimed at educating youth about the dangers of drug and alcohol use, and sharing information on violence prevention.

Each day throughout the week included themes such as pajama day; flannel day; red, white and blue day; neon day; and school pride day. Oct. 24 even included two assemblies – one for middle school students and another for high school students.

The morning assembly included guest speaker Camille Jackson from the Youth Service Bureau, who presented a slide show of information about drug, alcohol and violence prevention. The afternoon assembly for high school students included a show hosted by DJ Choices that highlighted the opioid epidemic. DJ Choices is an entertainment group that engages audiences in specific topics using popular culture to tell stories. The event on Wednesday included music from performers such as Macklemore; a light show; and a series of testimonials from people whose lives have been negatively impacted by drug use.
