Fall Fest provides fun and frights

When you enter the kitchen at Mountaintop Area Elementary School, it looks pretty standard – kitchen supplies, food, cafeteria workers and more. But it’s a little bit spookier on Halloween, during the annual Fall Festival.

The Fall Festival is an annual event to help celebrate the fall season and Halloween. This year, literacy coach Cortney Schall said it was the PBIS incentive for the month of October, which is part of the schoolwide positive behavior program. She said students were encouraged to get 10 signatures from their teacher proving they followed the schoolwide rules of being kind, respectful, responsible and safe, which was their admission into the Fall Fest.

Food service workers welcomed students into what they called the Haunted Kitchen. The lights were dimmed and everything was decorated in Halloween décor. Every turn presented students with an appropriately-scary, yet fun course through the kitchen that included faux spiders, fearsome masks and frightening music.
