Preparing the way for wind power
West Chester Area School District | Posted on
According to American Wind Energy Association, 20% of the country’s electricity could be produced by wind by 2030. Students at West Chester Middle School are preparing for the shift by participating in an annual competition involving wind turbines. According to the district’s website, students work in teams to design, build and test a functional, creative wind turbine. Entries are judged on efficiency, innovative design and quality of construction. The competition is designed to help students learn about the effectiveness and limitations of wind energy technology while competing against their fellow students in an environment that is encouraging and supportive.
