McClellan Elementary engages students through STEM Games

McClellan Elementary School kicked off their EverFi online STEM program with a banner-raising ceremony in October. EverFi is an online STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) program that McClellan students utilize through the generosity of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. The program is designed for students in grades 4-8 and helps to make math and science more relatable to students by using a sports theme. Last year, fourth- and fifth-grade students played a hockey game, “Future Goals – Hockey Scholar.” Students answered questions, solved problems and earned trophies along the way. Students that beat the entire game earn The Stanley Cup. One amazing student earned the cup last year and was honored at the banner-raising ceremony to launch the program for this school year! Fifth-grade teacher Mr. Thomas used the Virtual Reality cart and pretended to play hockey for the Pittsburgh Penguins to build excitement for this year’s game. After the ceremony, the fifth graders helped Mrs. Thomas’ second-grade class play the math game.
