Jefferson Elementary classroom transforms into bat cave

Mrs. Santora’s first-grade class at Jefferson Elementary recently spent an exciting week in which students participated in lessons and activities focused on the theme of pumpkins and bats. To cap off the week, the classroom was transformed into a bat cave. Students dressed in black and brought flashlights so they could see and work inside the cave. The bat cave was dark with orange and white lights strung around the room, complete with hand-made bats hanging from the ceiling. The students read the book, “Stellaluna” and engaged in different learning activities centered around the story. “Stellaluna” is an award-winning book about a young fruit bat raised by a family of birds after becoming separated from its mother. The story teaches important lessons in friendship and embracing differences.
