Literacy program involves the whole community

Bellefonte Area School District  |  Posted on

The Bellefonte READS program at Bellefonte Area SD was named an Honorable Mention winner in the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Magna Award recognition program, which honors innovative projects that advance student learning. Community groups and businesses partner with district staff to choose a common book. Every student gets a copy of the book and the district hosts discussions about the book with groups of students and their families. The reading initiative is reinforced through a series of literacy activities such as read aloud sessions during the school day, a local book mobile in the community, and resources for parents to assist their children and increase their own skills.
