picture of USAF strings in classroomNorth Penn and Methacton school districts welcomed the United States Air Force (USAF) String Ensemble, along with North Penn alumnus Deborah Volker, for a collaborative project between orchestra students and the USAF String Ensemble. During the USAF String Ensemble’s workshop, students learned new skills with more individualized attention while reinforcing skills and focusing on performance. Students practiced the “Strolling Strings” model presented by USAF Strings, requiring the young musicians to memorize music, then stroll among audience members, developing their self-confidence. The project was a joint effort with the Penndale Middle School Orchestra under the direction of Erica Milbourne and the Arcola Middle School Orchestra and String Ensemble of the Methacton School District under the direction of Sharon Saul. The project culminated in a free, collaborative concert featuring Penndale and Arcola students along with the USAF String Ensemble open to the public on March 31.
