Reindeer Games at BEA brings holiday fun for staff, students

Each year, staff and students who are a part of the PBIS committee at Bald Eagle Area High School help organize a holiday-themed event to celebrate the Christmas season and bring incentives to students who exemplify good behavior.

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Support, but is also known as the Schoolwide Positive Behavior program that aims to improve the school’s environment and reward students for good behavior. Part of doing that includes creating events for students throughout the year to celebrate their efforts, including the Reindeer Games that also helps kick off the holidays.

Reindeer Games, held the Friday before holiday break, included class competitions among students from the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. Students from the winning class were entered into an end-of-year prize drawing.

Health teacher Danielle Butterworth, who is also on the Schoolwide Positive Behavior committee, said through the games, the goal is also to encourage students to use the schoolwide rules and incorporate teamwork and inclusiveness in it. Events this year included 10 to 12 games such as a stocking guessing game; secret Santa, where students had to open gifts using oven mitts; blindfolded gingerbread decorating; a snow angle race; and more.
