Share Table reduces waste and encourages healthful choices

At Fairview Elementary School students who have a little extra at lunch have the opportunity to share it with others. Immediately after receiving lunch served at school, students may “donate” unopened items that they do not want to the Share Table and other students may help themselves. Remaining items are used for snacks, additional meal service or donations of food. Items such as milk, juice and yogurt are deposited into an ice bin to maintain appropriate temperature. Nonperishable food and fruit is placed on the table. The purpose of the project is to help reduce food waste and encourage the consumption of healthful foods.
