Students project kindness at Troy High School

Increasing student success, provide student recognition, growing school spirit and creating mentoring opportunities for students was at the top of the goals list for Troy High School going into the school year. To help achieve these aims, the school began the ProjecT Kind initiative, which introduces mentoring and peaceful conflict-resolution in the school setting. According to an article on the district’s website, students used Sean Covey’s popular book, The Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teens, to study the book’s habits for success: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. To kick off the program, the school held a school spirit assembly followed by a class activity and a guest speaker. Staff and students were given ProjecT Kind T-shirts designed by a fellow student – an idea suggested by parents in the school district. A committee was formed to plan activities throughout the year to reinforce the initiative’s themes.
